As young as I can remember I have enjoyed music such as the Beatles. As I’ve grown older it’s become obvious that much of the influence on music we enjoy is based on our parents playlists. With both my parents born in the late 50’s their playlist and taste in music is based mostly in the mid to late 60’s until the early 80’s. With that I’ve learned to adore music of the same era, not only from them but growing up in the 80’s encourage this love.
When it comes to the Beatles I’ve never known a time when I don’t remember their music. They are of course an influence to almost all musicians both of their time and beyond. The words they sang were poetic and often unspoken truths of a strenuous and difficult time in history. They had no fears in addressing these issues through music. They were politically controversial, standing for all they believed in regardless of backlash. In doing so, many followed their music as the rebellion continued.
Abby Road was released 5 years before I was born. This being their final album it once again grew in such popularity it had reached the top of the charts. These young men started out as a teeny bopper UK band and with growing popularity they took their music to political, practical, and relatable turn based on what was happening in the USA and around the world.
Many loving songs came from the band promoting peace and love among the citizens of the world. Some of my favorites are of course some of their biggest hits. Black Bird touches me, Come Together brought interest and wonder, Dear Prudence is incredible, Don’t Let Me Down is one that anyone can relate to, Elanor Rigby a sad story nearly brought tears to my eyes long ago, Hello Goodbye is a wonderful description of difference of opion, I Am The Walrus is clearly a work of drugs common of the era, “speaking words of wisdom” from Let It Be engaged my emotional side, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da proving in fact “life goes on” inspirational, as a writer Paper Back Writer is of course a favorite, The Long And Winding Road is sad and and thought provoking, While My Guitar Gently Weeps my oh my is this a sad but beautiful song, and last but not least Yesterday, making me ponder my life and loves.
These are my absolute favorite Beatles songs. I can’t imagine a world without the Beatles and am so happy to have experienced their music. They bring inspiration to me, so much so that I often listen to them while writing or on the computer at all. I would love to hear your favorites and why they mean so much to you.
