Being an adult , regardless of your job title, requires self-care if we are ever going to survive. Though many will say there isn’t enough time in the day to spend time on themselves, you MUST make time. Even if it’s only soaking in the tub letting your mind wonder, dream, and escape the hustle and bustle of every day life. This includes stay at home parents. We need to refill our battery. I’ve heard many times people saying, don’t give up your life for a job that will replace you in the event you die before your obituary is ever posted. This is absolutely true. You can not be so wrapped up in making the almighty dollar to forget about yourself. You absolutely do not want to wake up on your death bed looking back on your life and the only memories you have are working, ignoring your family and friends, and not enjoying a single moment of your precious life. This leads only to regret.
I’m not saying quit your job and live as a vagrant somewhere. I’m saying take time doing something you enjoy. If it’s something that only takes a few minutes of your time, do it daily. If it’s something that requires a longer amount of time, do it weekly.
Meditation or devoted time to your religious beliefs, getting your nails done, going golfing, painting a picture, writing in your journal, spending time playing with your kids without distraction, you get the picture. Turn off your electronic devices and be present in the moment. Truly savor life. It will make the mundane you must bear to be easier to get through leaving your life much more fulfilling.
When it comes to self-care, I tend to do many things. I love to craft and paint and I do this weekly as it takes time to get the stuff organized just to start then hours to finish what my plans are for that day. Getting a long hot bath I do of course daily. Spending time with my family I also do daily. Making time for me is important in all other aspects of my life. When you are present in the moment, life is more enjoyable and easier to deal with. Take care of yourselves people. You only get one life, don’t waste it.
